Newark Security Ordinance
We are pleased to report that at a meeting held today with the Newark City Council an agreement was reached that the proposed ordinance change would be tabled. More importantly the Housing Council member Dana Rone has agreed to establish a special task force to study an effective way to deal with the need for security in multi family developments. We received support from Dianne Johnson and Walter Kreher of HUD; Anthony Cupano from the NJHMFA who appeared to confirm the fact that no Federal or State funds were available for this new City proposal. Several owners, attorney Bruce Gudin also appeared along with JAHMA’s insurance consultant New World Insurance John Phelps to support positions taken against the ordinance. Senator Ron Rice made an appearance and restated Governor Corzine’s pledge to create and preserve 100,000 units of affordable housing during his administration.
JAHMA wishes to extend to all members thank you for their support on addressing this issue.
Regards,
Ken Pagano
